Four held for making and selling spurious liquor

A joint force of the state excise department and the district police on Wednesday night raided a factory producing adulterated liquor and sealed it. After getting the information that an illegal
factory had been operating at Chaipara village of Kalichak in Malda, the excise department and police carried out a raid at the illegal liquor factory and seized huge quantity of adulterated liquor.

The excise department has also seized the equipments that were required for producing the liquor.
Those who were involved in the incident failed to flee the spot and the police surrounded the entire area from outside. The police have arrested the four main accused.

The police came to know that the business was being operated at the Chaipara village close to the Indo-Bangladesh border. This has become a serious threat to the law and order situation in the area.

The local people said that people would die if they continued to consume the spurious liquor as
some other narcotic substances were mixed with the liquor there.

The accused used to do this to make people addicted so that they continued visiting the place.
Police have started an investigation and are conducting raids to nab other culprits involved in
the incident.
