Four held for killing youth for a mobile

Four people were arrested for killing a 28-year-old youth after snatching his valuables at Daryaganj in central Delhi.

The accused, Mohammad Danish, 18, Salim, 20, Sadab, 19 and Owaish, 18, were arrested from Turkman Gate in central Delhi on Monday, said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Additional Commissioner of police [central].

The victim, Ranjit Shah, was engaged at Delhi Metro’s construction site near ITO. He was  a native of Sitamarhi district in Bihar. The incident took place  on Sunday night, around 10 pm. Shah had gone to recharge his mobile phone at Daryaganj market and was returning to his work place when the accused attacked him.

He was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Reportedly, he died due to excessive bleeding.

During investigation, police found that a youth named Danish and his accomplices were involved in the murder. ‘Danish was apprehended from Turkman Gate and on his insistence rest of the accused were held,’ said Srivastava.

During interrogation, Danish told police that he, along with his accomplices Salim, Shadab, Owaish and Saquib were consuming beer at Tikona Park near Delhi Gate Chowk. They stopped Shah near Tikona Park and when he resisted, Danish and Saquib caught hold him and Salim stabbed him twice on the stomach and chest.

Sadab and Owaish took out his wallet and mobile and fled from the spot. The police is looking for Saquib, another accused in the case.
