Former OSD to Bhutan Prince and his wife roughed up by landlord over bill payment

An ex-Officer on Special Duty for the Prince of Bhutan and his wife were beaten up by the owner of the house of their rented accommodation and his associates after they had a fight over the payment of electricity bill for their residence in South-west Delhi’s Dwarka North area.

Sanjoy Bhattacharya, the former OSD to the Prince of Bhutan and his wife Ananya Bhattacharya, advisor to a dentist surgeon in a private hospital were beaten up by the owner of the house and Sanjoy had reported that his wife was manhandled and dragged by her hair, and in the end, they were forced to sign on papers forcing them to vacate their flat.

Sanjoy, had to write to the top police officials including the Joint Commissioner of Police, (South-west), Depender Pathak and the Police Commissioner, Alok Verma after which an FIR was registered in the case, however, the accused have still not been caught and Sanjoy has alleged that the Station House Officer is in connivance with the accused.

The complaint was filed by his wife, Ananya, who reported that she lives with her husband in B block, Dilshad Garden, and had shifted to Atul Apartment located at Dwarka North. They started living in a flat on the eight floor on rent.

On December 18, the owner of the flat, Dalbir Singh along with a property dealer, Sanjeev Kumar and a few others came to their house. Dalbir had furnished the electricity bill for the month of November and asked them to pay.

However, Sanjoy grew suspicious of the bill and citing that it was hiked, he took out the original bill. Dalbir and the others started arguing with Sanjoy and the conversation soon turned violent when the group started to beat Sanjoy.

Sanjoy’s glasses were broken by the accused and when Ananya tried to intervene, one of the men grabbed her chest and dragged her hair and beat her as well. When Sanjoy realised that his wife is in danger, he compromised with them after which the group made them sign on a paper asking them to vacate the flat.

While talking to Millennium Post, Sanjoy said: “I was the former OSD to the Prince of Bhutan and they did this to me. Imagine, they assaulted my wife and pulled her hair. I went complaining to the SHO and he never listened. I had to talk to the Police Commissioner to get justice. I can’t even imagine what a common man has to go through.”

When the SHO was contacted about this issue, he said: “We have registered an FIR in the case and will make both parties talk to each other, how can he say that we are not taking any action?”

However, Sanjoy now fears for his and his wife’s life. “I have been tailed by these goons for the past few days. I fear for my wife. What if she is attacked with acid? Who will be responsible?”
