Former Cong MP MJ Akbar joins BJP

Akbar, who was earlier known to be close to Congress, switched over to the BJP bandwagon ahead of the general elections.

He said that he has come back in politics for its policies and work to bring the nation back into a ‘recovery mission’.

‘I have come back to politics because of policy (main rajniti me niti ke liye wapas aya hu). The crisis in front of the country is known to all. This is an opportunity to do whatever little we can do for our country,’ he said after joining the party.

Apart from Akbar, former bureaucrat NK Singh and loyalist of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi’s brother Aijaz Ilmi joined hands with the BJP on Saturday.

‘I was in talks with the BJP for the past two months. Although, I had taken the decision long back, I could not join them officially due to the busy schedules of the BJP leaders. It finally happened today,’ said Ilmi.

In case of Akbar, this is not his first stint with politics as he had earlier was elected on Congress ticket from Kishanganj in Bihar in 1989.
