Foot over-bridges outside all Metro stations planned by KMC

If everything goes per plan, the people in the city will soon get foot over-bridges outside all Metro stations.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is planning to set up foot over-bridges outside Metro stations so that people do not face any difficulties while crossing the road just outside the Metro stations.

It was learnt that the foot over-bridges will be constructed outside all Metro stations between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Belgachia. Mayor Sovan Chatetrjee, a few days ago met officials at the Metro Railway headquarters.

It was learnt a decision was taken in the meeting to form a joint team to study the project. The team will comprise senior officials of Metro railway, KMC and the state Transport department.

The main purpose of the initiative was to reduce the number of accidents. Many people are seen standing by the side of the road to cross the road.

Once the foot over-bridge is constructed, the people will be able to take the bridge instead of risking their lives by crossing the busy road. The experts will study which are the places where foot over-bridges could be constructed.

According to a senior KMC official, a panel has been set up to study where foot over-bridges will be effective. A review meeting was conducted to check the feasibility of the project. Senior RVNL officials were also present in the meeting.

According to a senior police officer, the project is necessary to check the road accidents. People often cross the busy stretches along the C R Avenue after getting down from the Metro. Once the foot over-bridges are constructed, it will help in reducing the accidents and traffic congestion as well. Sources said that the team that has been formed with representation from KMC, state Transport department and Metro railways will decide where the foot over-bridges would be constructed.
