Foggy morning, pleasant & warm day greet Delhites on New Year

It was a foggy Monday morning here with the minimum temperature settling at 11 degrees Celsius, the weather office said. However, it was a pleasantly warm day in the national capital on Monday with the maximum temperature settling at 24.3 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season’s normal.

The sky would remain partly cloudy in the day with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius, an official of India Meteorological Department said. The humidity at 8.30 am was 100 per cent. 

According to weather analysts, the difference between maximum and minimum temperature dropped on the New Year and fog would remain dense or moderate in different regions of Delhi and its neighbouring parts till January 3. 

Sunday’s maximum temperature settled at 23.2 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above the average for this time of the year.

At least 53 trains were running late while three trains were cancelled on Monday due to heavy fog in many parts of north India, a railway official said. 

According to the Northern Railway official, 26 trains were rescheduled and 53 trains were arriving late in Delhi while Vikramshila Express, Avadh-Assam Express and Udyan Abha Toofan Express were cancelled for Monday. The Amritsar-Howrah Mail, Poorva Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani were cancelled for Tuesday, the official added.

Operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport were also affected. As many as eight international and 10 domestic flights arriving and departing from Delhi were delayed due to foggy weather.
