Flyover connecting New Town with EM bypass proposed

The state Urban Development department has proposed to set up a flyover connecting the Eastern Metropolitan bypass with New Town. The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 500 crore. The proposed flyover will start 200 yards from the northern flank of Parama Island flyover which has been named as Ma flyover by the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. Then, it will turn right and will be ultimately connected with Biswa Banga Sarani near Rabindra Tirtha. The survey has been completed and a project report has been submitted to the department. The length of the proposed flyover would be around 7 km. Once it’s completed the residents of Rajarhat and South Kolkata bound passengers from airport will take 20 minutes to reach Eastern Metropolitan bypass using the flyover. Attempts have already been made to connect Ma flyover with the AJC Bose Road flyover so that vehicles intending to take Vidyasagar Setu will, take at most 30 minutes to 45 minutes to reach there. CM had instructed the state Urban development and Transport departments to ensure faster movements of vehicles.
