Five years on, quack gets 10-year jail sentence for raping minor girl

Chinsurah district court on Sunday sentenced a quack to ten years rigorous imprisonment and slapped him with a Rs 20,000 fine for raping a minor girl.

The accused Sarwar Ali alias Munna, who belongs to Bhadreswar in Hooghly district, had raped the minor girl when she had come to him for treatment.

The incident had occurred in November 2011 at the house of the accused in Telinipara area of Bhadreswar.

Munna had taken the girl to a deserted place and raped her. The victim’s family members found out and later lodged a complaint in the nearby police station against him. On the basis of the compliant, police started a probe and arrested the accused.

A few months ago, Munna had secured bail. The victim’s family said that soon after Munna – who stays in the same area as the victim – started mounting pressure on them to withdraw the case against him.

After the family refused to withdraw the case, the accused threatened them with dire consequences.

Fearing for their safety, the victim’s family left their residence and informed police about Munna’s threats.

After examining all the details, the court on Sunday pronounced its final verdict in the case. The local residents had said that the accused had been practicing as a quack for a few years before he committed the crime. They said that on the pretext of treating the minor girl, the accused had taken to a room and raped her.

Munna had also threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident. However, the girl soon fell ill and her family had to take her girl to another doctor, after which they found out about her ordeal.

The girl had become so traumatised that she could not properly speak with her family for a few days after the incident took place.

The victim’s family expressed their happiness after the court announced the verdict.

“Finally we have received justice for which we have been waiting for a long time. We spent sleepless nights after the incident. We have full faith in the judiciary and pray to god that no such incidents ever take place,” a relative of the victim said.
