Five-year-old girl mowed down by tractor, accused arrested

A five-year-old girl was crushed to death after she came under the wheels of a tractor in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Sunday. The girl died on the spot and the errant driver was caught by the public and handed over to the police. Her body has been shifted to the local mortuary for post-mortem.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as, Neha (5), who lived with her family in Bawana’s JJ cluster area. The accused, Satish (30), also lived in the same neighbourhood and used to work as a driver. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon around 12.15 pm, when the girl was playing outside her house. “While she was playing outside, Satish was driving his tractor in a narrow lane adjacent to her house. When Satish was exiting the lane, the girl came under the rear wheel of the tractor and was crushed,” said a senior police official from Outer District.

Hearing the girl’s cries, the neighbours were alerted, who saw the girl stuck under the wheel. They caught the driver and tried to save the girl. However, she died on the spot.

The police was informed about the incident and a case was registered at Bawana police station. “We have arrested Satish and also impounded the tractor. The girl’s body has been sent to the mortuary for post mortem,” the official added.
