Five Pakistani militants killed in Kashmir

Indian security forces on Monday shot dead five Pakistani militants in J&K, police said.

All of them belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen group, a police officer said. He said the five were from Pakistan and were killed in a gun battle in a forested part of Garderbal district. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized from the site. The officer said the group had infiltrated into the Kashmir Valley about a month back from Pakistan.

The counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation early on Monday following a tip off, police said. ‘When the militants were surrounded and asked to surrender, they started firing at the security forces,’ the officer said.
