Five killed in two road accidents

Police said that two persons who were travelling in a pickup van died after the vehicle overturned at Dumuradi More near Jaypur in Purulia on Sunday morning. Around 10 passengers who were also travelling in the vehicle were injured in the incident and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told the police that the pick van was coming at a top speed with many passengers. It lost its control when the driver of the vehicle applied brakes when a person suddenly came in front of the vehicle. The local people rushed the injured passengers to the hospital where two were declared brought dead.

In a separate incident, three cyclists were killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle on National Highway 31.

Police said that a loaded truck was running at a top speed when the accident had taken place.
All the three victims, whose identities are yet to be ascertained by the police, fell in a nearby ditch.
After hearing the screams, the local people rushed to the spot and took the victims to the hospital where the doctors pronounced them brought dead.
