Five injured in three separate attacks

In two separate incidents of attacks, four persons have been injured in Malda on Saturday night. Three of the victims were shot at, while the fourth one has been stabbed. The first in which two persons sustained bullet injuries took place at Domhat Crossing under Manickchak police station in Malda at little after Saturday midnight.

Police said that the victims, Biswajit Malakar, who runs a little shop in the area was sleeping along with his friend Mantu Ghosh, a tailor on the cot outside their shop to get some relief from the extreme heat. Suddenly, a gang of 4-5 miscreants came on a motor cycle and shot at Biswajit from the close quarter. The bullet through pierced Biswajit and injured Mantu who was sleeping next to him. 

The incident triggered tension in the area. After hearing the screams of the victims, the local people rushed to the spot and took them to Manickchawk village health centre and later shifted them to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

Local residents were woken up by the screams for help by the two injured traders, but by the time they came out, the miscreants sped away. Both of them were taken to Manickchak block hospital, from where they were later shifted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital.

The injured traders have informed the police that they have identified the accused as Mithun Mondol, a notorious miscreant in the area. Police suspect that this could be fallout of a triangular love story. Police have registered a case on the basis of the compliant by the victim’s relatives. Police are yet to arrest the accused Mithun who has been absconding since the incident. Police are investigating whether he had engaged some others to carry out the crime or if he himself had shot Biswajit.

In another incident that took place at Sattari area under English Bazar police station late Saturday night one Mithu Sarkar, a local youth received a gunshot injury on his abdomen. Mithu’s friend Moloy Sarkar who came to his rescue was slashed on his body. 

The two persons were taking a midnight stroll in the locality to get some relief from the heat. Both of them have been admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries on their bodies. The miscreants had fled from the spot after the victims screamed for help attracting the attention of the local residents. Police have started investigation in two separate incidents of crime. Raids were being made at various places to nab the culprits. The police are yet to ascertain the exact reasons behind the attack.

Sirajuddulla Seikh, a class X student at Kaliachak in Malda was injured and undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital when a clash broke out between two groups over the possession of a piece of land. Mantu Ghosh who had received a bullet injury at Manickchawk incident was a Trinamool Congress activist in the area.
