Five DU officials axed for ‘leaking’ Irani’s degree documents

According to a DU official, the step has been taken for passing information to media on the status of the ‘disputed’ degree of the new HRD minister. While confirming the suspension of the DU officials to Millennium Post,  Malay Neerav, DU joint dean of students’s welfare, said: ‘Five of the non-teaching staff of the School of Open Learning (SOL) have been suspended for accessing the confidential file and then leaking it.’

Neerav, however, failed to throw light whether the step was taken on the direction of HRD ministry or Directorate of School of Open Learning on her volition. Neerav said, ‘These are officials below section officer level’.

It is pertinent to mention here that DU took the action after a Hindi daily published the leaked documents. The daily had reported that Irani had taken admission in DU’s School of Open Learning last year, but had not appeared for her examination. Irani is at the centre of a controversy due to her educational qualifications that has led to a full-blown war of words between the Congress and the ruling party -- the Bharatiya Janata Party.
