First smart city in capital to have shades of Barcelona: V Naidu

The proposed smart city will have world class infrastructure, latest technologies on water recycling, and solid waste management besides round the clock power supply , green building standards and equipped with  wi-fi services.

“We have identified 20,000 to 24,000 acres of land near Mundka bordering Haryana on the other side. DDA will not acquire the land from farmers but they will be encouraged to give up their land through land pooling policy to be implemented within a month,” Balvinder Kumar, Vice Chairman of DDA told Millennium Post.

The policy will come into effect as soon as UD Ministry issues such a notification. As per the plan, the smart city will be mainly on right portion of Rohtak Road bordering Rohini, Narela and Dwarka sub-cities on Delhi side and Bahadurgarh and Sonipat districts on Haryana side. Under the land pooling policy, the developers are required to surrender their land to DDA which in turn will develop and return  48-60 percent of the developed land and make them stake holders .

Talking about the vision of the smart city Naidu said the focus would be to build global educational and health institutes and entertainment facilities. The minister was speaking at a function organised by DDA to distribute ‘allotment cum possession’ letters to successful allottees in Dwarka area of the DDA housing scheme 2014.

The minister also announced his vision to make Delhi a global city by augmenting infrastructure and bringing world class institutions in education, health and entertainment sectors. “I saw the city of Barcelona, and apart from modern buildings they have preserved their ancient architecture. We also want to develop Delhi on the lines of Barcelona and Spain has offered to share their expertise in infrastructure development,” said Naidu.

He also announced that the Delhi Development Act was being revisited to incorporate suggestions / views of experts so that the development was in keeping with people’s aspirations and was done keeping in view natural, cultural and future needs of  citizens.
