First high-speed Metro rail to come up along Yamuna E-way

The local authorities, which ensure infrastructural development of the area, have claimed to expedite the Metro expansion plan with high-speed corridor along with the 165-kilometre expressway, connecting Greater Noida to Agra.

The authorities – NOIDA, Greater Noida and YEIDA – have announced to work on 38km stretch from Greater Noida to Jewar, after signing an MoU with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for a technical feasibility study.

As per a report, the proposed link will begin from Knowledge Park-II in Greater Noida and will cover <g data-gr-id="34">38-km</g> distance in Jewar area. To ensure connectivity with residential and industrial parts, the authorities have planned to construct Metro line parallel to the Expressway service road.

The speed of Metro trains on this route has been proposed at 120-kilometre per hour, which is the highest ever in the country. Airport Metro runs at a speed of 90 <g data-gr-id="39">kmph</g>, which is the highest, and even the Metro trains run at a speed of 40 to 50-kmph in other metropolitans.

Officials of all three authorities, after convening a joint meeting, informed that the proposed Metro track is estimated to cost Rs 2,500 crore. Metro stations on this route will follow green norms with solar panels on each of them for meeting electricity demand. As the Metro line will be aligned with the road level along the Yamuna Expressway, a full-proof security plan will be made.

“As the area is growing by leaps and bounds, the need of <g data-gr-id="38">hour</g> is to provide Metro connectivity. With the announcement of a new airport in Jewar by the Centre, it was necessary to provide Metro connectivity not only to the area but also to the airport located in the Capital,” said a senior official.

“The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) signed <g data-gr-id="48">an MoU</g> last week with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to begin the feasibility study and a detailed project report. With inking of the agreement, the feasibility report should take about three <g data-gr-id="47">months,</g> while the detailed project report should be in place in about five months' time. Construction work of the proposed Metro line is likely to begin before the end of the year while it is expected to be commissioned by 2019. Once the Greater Noida-<g data-gr-id="44">Jewar</g> track is commissioned, it will provide connectivity between the two airports, which will prove to be a boon to travellers," said <g data-gr-id="46">an YEIDA</g> official.
