First cashless ticketing system launched at Park Street Metro station

The first cashless ticketing system that is GPRS PoS terminal was introduced at Park Street Metro station in presence of MC Chauhan, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata on Friday.

Metro Railway, Kolkata is the first underground Railway which has introduced GPRS PoS terminal at Metro stations. In all, 25 such machines will be installed at Metro stations for the convenience of the passengers. This initiative has been taken to support cashless transaction as a part of digital India initiative. The time for one transaction will be 3-5 seconds. All debit and credit cards will be accepted at GPRS PoS terminals.

At present, this facility will be available for recharging of Smart Cards of the value of Rs.100 and above. The system has been introduced with the assistance of State Bank of India, Kolkata circle through their MAB (Merchant Acquiring Business) team and Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), Kolkata. Sayani Das of Shovabazar and Ashoke Banerjee of Netaji Nagar were the first commuters who recharged their smart cards after introduction of the system.
