The Fire and Emergency Services department will set up fire stations in each and every block, the minister in charge Sovan Chatterjee said in the Assembly on Tuesday.

He said a proposal in this regard was being discussed and a decision in the matter would be taken. He was replying to a question raised by Trinamool Congress MLA Samir Kumar Podder. In replying to Podder’s question he said six fire stations had been set up in Nadia and three had been proposed which would come up in different areas.

Chatterjee who is also the state housing minister said in 2016-17, 80,000 houses would be built under Gitanjali project. He was replying to a question raised by Trinamool Congress MLA Kallol Khan. He said after the election notification and the subsequent election code of conduct, the project had been affected. But the department was working on the project and the target would be achieved.

In replying to a question raised by veteran Congress leader Manas Bhuniya, he said to select the beneficiaries the help of the people’s representatives would be taken. Bhuniya said there was a confusion among the MLAs over the process that would be followed to select the beneficiaries.
