Fire breaks out in Kasba shoe manufacturing unit

A fire broke out at a shoe manufacturing unit of a branded company near Ruby more in Kasba triggering tension in the locality.

The employees of the shoe factory spotted smoke billowing out of a store room. Many of the staff members were inside the factory when the one of its room had caught fire. They started running to a safer place. The local residents found thick smoke billowing out of the factory and it covered the entire area very soon. The local people took part in the rescue operations before the fire officials reached the spot. Around seven fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flame. All the employees of the factory were safely evacuated from the factory.

A room inside the factory caught fire at around 3 pm resulting in tension among the employees. The fire soon spread to the other portion of the building. Police cordoned off the entire area. A search was carried out both by the police and fire brigade officials to see if any person was trapped inside the factory. They later confirmed that no one was inside the factory. The fire department official added that the operation took more than two hours. However, no major casualties were reported in the incident. Police and fire brigade officials brought the situation under control after evacuating the people from the surrounding area.

According to the senior official of the fire department, a portion of the building might have been damaged in the incident. As per the preliminary investigation, an electrical short-circuit might have caused the fire. A senior fire department official said: “We surrounded the factories from all sides and brought the fire under control. The fire could have spread but there were no casualties as the fire department acted swiftly.”

Police and fire brigade are yet to ascertain the reason of fire and are investigating the matter from all angles. They are also investigating if there was adequate fire fighting mechanism in the factory.
