Fire breaks out in hotel beside NH 6, none hurt

Fire broke out at hotel beside National Highway 6 near Kolaghat. The incident took place on Saturday and five fire engines managed to douse the flame with an effort of four hours.

Police force and fire brigade officers managed the situation promptly, before any people got injured. The people inside the hotel were brought out. The evacuation of hotel was done within half an hour.

The local people witnessed the flame and called up the police station. “Those people did not have the fire brigade’s phone number. They called us. A highway patrolling vehicle rushed there to see the flames in the hotel,” said a police officer.

As the fire broke out on the room, the authority could not know about the incident. The policemen went there to inform them about the flames.

“We called up the fire brigade. The fire fighters had a tough time extinguishing the flame there. But they managed the situation within four hours,” the office added.

In another incident, fire broke out beside Barasat railway station in which some shops were gutted on Saturday night. Three fire tenders managed to douse the flame.

Another fire incident took place at Malda’s Gazol. Seven shops were gutted at Gazol market of Malda on Saturday night. Fire broke out at a local grocery shop, which later spread across the market within 20-30 minutes. One fire tender could not do much as the intensity of the fire was heavy. The rest of fire tenders could not reach to the place, as they had to come from Malda town, which is far from Gazol.

“We have to start out business from zero. All of those shops were gutted. We demanded compensation from the district administration,” said local traders at Gazol.
