Fire breaks out at plywood factory in Domjur

A fire broke out at a plywood factory in Domjur, Howrah on Sunday night.

Around 20 fire tenders were swung into action and they took more than 10 hours to bring the situation under control. The factory was completely damaged. A portion of the factory collapsed as the impact of the rage was so high.

No casualty or injury was however reported. The staff members, who were present inside the factory, fled rushed out after a room caught fire.

Police said the plywood factory caught fire at little after 10.30 pm. The local people spotted the smoke billowing out of the factory and informed the fire brigade department. According to the preliminary investigation, the fire brigade department suspects that huge inflammable materials were stored inside the factory which led to the incident. The fire fighters initially faced some problems as there were no ponds or tanks in the area. The entire area was covered with thick smoke.

Police and fire brigade suspect that an electrical short circuit might have caused the fire. The factory authorities claimed that property worth Rs few lakh were damaged.
