Fire breaks out at furniture showroom in Siliguri

A fire broke out at furniture showroom in Siliguri triggering tension among the local residents as it was situated in congested area. None were injured in the incident.

Police said that at around 4 pm, a fire broke out at the showroom situated in the Bhaktinagar area of Siliguri. Local people spotted smoke billowing out of the showroom. The fire soon engulfed the area.

Local people initially tried to douse the flame but the intensity of the fire was so high that they could not douse the flame. The incident, however, created panic among the local residents as the area is congested.

After being informed, four fire tenders were swung into action. According to the preliminary investigation, the fire brigade suspect that the fire was caused after a gas cylinder exploded which was stored inside the showroom. Local people also heard the sound of an explosion.

The area was soon covered with thick smoke and the fire soon spread in the area. The fire fighters worked in a war footing and brought the situation under control. The entire area was evacuated.

The fire tenders faced some problems entering the area as the area was densely populated. Police and fire brigade have started a probe to ascertain the cause of the accident. The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained. According to the preliminary investigation, much furniture was destroyed in the fire.
