FIR lodged against Birbhum BJP president Dudhkumar Mondal

An FIR was on Friday lodged against BJP’s Birbhum district president Dudhkumar Mondal for threatening to cut off hands of Trinamool workers, sparking outrage in the ruling party following which he expressed regret for his remarks.

Mondal on Thursday had threatened that hands of TMC activists would be severed if “any more atrocity was committed” on BJP workers for quitting Trinamool Congress.

“I ask TMC attackers in the district, please stop coming out of homes and laying hands on BJP workers. Take away your hand. Otherwise the people will cut off your hand,” he said at a meeting here on the occasion of ‘Good Governance Day’.

Mondal said that he had made the comments because he was mentally stressed by the eviction of his party workers by TMC “goons”.

The SDPO, Rampurhat, Koteswar Rao, told PTI that the FIR was filed against Mondal by Ashwini Tiwary, chairman of the Rampurhat municipality, for Mondal’s remarks.

As Mondal’s remark invited condemnation, BJP state president Rahul Sinha served him with a showcause notice after which he apologised and promised not to make such comments in future.

“After hearing his statement we immediately served him with a showcause notice. And he has apologised in a letter to everybody and has promised that he won’t make such comment in future. We have cautioned him against making such a comment and in case he does it again we will take strong action,” Sinha told PTI.

Dudhkumar during his speech had alleged that BJP workers were being threatened in their homes, targetted and attacked in different parts of Birbhum district for leaving TMC.
