Finance firm robbed under cops’ nose

One of the Muthoot Finance branches, located in front of Rohini police station, was robbed in broad daylight. Four assailants barged into the office and decamped with large amounts of cash and gold jewellery after overpowering its employees.

‘The assailants armed with guns and knives entered the office posing to be customer at around 12 pm and overpowered the security guard and other staff. When they resisted they injured the security guard with a sharp edged weapon and fled the scene with cash and jewellery,’ said B S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer).

‘We are using the footage taken from two close-circuit televisions [CCTV] to link up the sequence of incident,’ said Jaiswal.

The security guard, identified as Rajesh Mishra, 32, was taken to the Baba Bhim Rao Memorial hospital where he was under observation of doctors.

A branch of Muthoot Finance located at the first floor of Agrawal E-complex in Rohini Sector 7. The office staff was present and Rajesh was guarding, armed with a gun outside the office.

Before the staff could say anything, they were overpowered by the assailants armed with country made pistols and knifes. And when Rajesh tried to prevent them, by firing at them twice, they stabbed Rajesh, injuring his waist and neck, before escaping.

They also allegedly assaulted a female staff, asking her for the keys of the storage room. They looted around Rs 1.30 lakh and gold jewellery, value of which is yet to be estimated, into a bag and fled the scene. Despite being injured, Rajesh followed them outside the office and again fired two shots in the air, said a shopkeeper of the complex.

‘Hearing the sound of bullet shots, we ran outside our shops and saw the injured Rajesh trying to fire his gun. We immediately called the police,’ he said.

Complex is located in a busy area, just in front of Rohini Sector 3 police station. But still the robbers managed to leave the spot without being spotted,’ claimed Raju who works in the complex as sweeper. According to him, there is only one way to go upstairs.
