Fed up with demands, married man kills lover

A 30-year-old married man allegedly murdered his lover in Outer Delhi and disposed off the body with the help of a friend but his plans went awry when a neighbour spotted him, police said today.

Umakant Pandit, who owns a factory, was apprehended from Rohini Sector II for murdering Rachna with whom he had an extramarital affair, P Karunakaran, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police [Outer], said. He landed in police net when he came there to wash off the blood stains in the house where Rachna was strangled allegedly by him.

Pandit, who is married and has two children, had taken a house on rent in Rohini Sector 21 for Rachna. He was fed up with the demands of Rachna and allegedly decided to murder her. He even bought a car to allegedly dispose of her body after murdering her.

‘He strangled her yesterday morning. He has purchased a red color suitcase already for disposal of the body. During the day time, he wandered here and there and also visited several times but could not get a chance to dispose off the body,’ the official said.

‘He then told a friend about it who assured he would help him. At night they were in the process of removing the body and were seen by the neighbour. The neighbour also saw blood dripping from the bag. He has also seen both the accused putting the same bag in a car. They wearing gloves,’ Karunakaran said.

They had fled from the scene with the body in the car. During interrogation, he claimed, Pandit told police that he became friends with Rachna as she used to go to her factory near his house.

He initially has friendly relation with her and later on developed illicit relation as she did not have cordial relations with her husband Banarshi Dass who was handicapped, he said.

She deserted her husband after he came to know about her relationship with Pandit, who later arranged for a house for her. She started living there and he also used to visit there, he said.

‘They had introduced themselves as husband and wife in the neighborhood. He has to bear all her expenses beside his own expenses for his wife with two daughters. He had to devote time at both the houses and was frustrated by the increasing demands of Rachana,’ he said. She was also allegedly insisting that Pandit leave his wife and move in with her.

‘After he was spotted by the neighbour, he fled the scene. On the way, he purchased petrol and took the dead body near Rasoi village on Panipat Highway. They dragged the body by the side of the road, poured petrol on it and set it on fire before returning to Delhi. He dropped his associate at Ashok Vihar area and returned to Ritahla area where he had parked his car fearing that he may be arrested. He planned to destroy all evidences available at the place of occurrence regarding their identity and was caught while going there,’ Karunakaran said.
