Walk for a healthy living

Physical activities like walking are a boon to our overall health. Walking every day can help control blood sugar levels, which, in turn, can help you prevent diabetes. Keeping this in mind, GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute organised 'Haato Bangla Haato', a walkathon to raise awareness about Diabetes, from GD Hospital and Diabetes Institute. Actor Parambrata Chatterjee and Kanchan Mallick was present to flag off this walkathon along with other eminent dignitaries like Professor (Dr) Sukumar Mukherjee, Chairman & Senior Consultant Physician, GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute, Professor (Dr) Shubhankar Chowdhury, HOD & Consultant Endocrinologist, GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Musrefa Hossain, Chief Executive Officer, GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute said, "Diabetes is India's fastest growing disease. Daring to be disease-free doesn't cost a dime. All it takes is willpower and this day is an annual self-contract for healthy and holistic lifestyle. We are very pleased with the great effort put forward by the participants. This is the fourth year of Haato Bangla Haato and our aim is to create more and more awareness on diabetes."

Haato Bangla Haato began its 1 km journey from the hospital traverse through Moulali, SN Banerjee Road, Wellington and will conclude at GD Hospital & Diabetes Institute. The walkathon in Malda will be held on November 24, 2019.

In the past, the event has been supported by a bevy of eminent personalities like Saurav Ganguly, Dev, Rituparna Sengupta, Prosenjit Chattejree, Gargee Roy Choudhury, Kanchan Mallick, Nipobithi, etc.

Apart from this walkathon, the hospital has also introduced a 'Diabetes Checkup on Wheels' campaign across the city. This mobile Diabetes Care vehicle moved around the city and conducted free tests; vitals scan and tried to create awareness in detecting, managing and eliminating diabetes. On World Diabetes Day, GD Hospital also offered GD Diabetes Monitoring Panel wherein the panel of tests were conducted at a nominal amount for the patients.
