This winter will be all about jazz

Music aficionados mark your calendar for first-ever Jazz India Circuit Launch Concert to be held in the heart of DLF5. Organised by Teamwork Arts, Jazz India Circuit (JIC) is all about getting into the groove, the subtleties of rhythm, and the power of percussion with legendary jazz drummers headlining a slew of concerts and festivals in the country. Witness the mesmerizing performance of internationally acclaimed jazz artists and groove to jazz beats with renowned Scandinavian jazz percussionist Joost Lijbaart accompanied by Sanne Rambags and guitarist Bram Stadhouders to headline the concert. Other renowned performers include Kitchensink and Syncopation.
A dazzling and powerful launch concert heralds the beginning of the 2017-18 season of JIC to be held on December 1 as Teamwork Arts comes together with DLF5 and Hines to present a spectacular line-up of artists and their music at the Horizon Plaza, Gurugram. Also in its bouquet of offerings, is the Goa International Jazz Live Festival in December and twin concerts in Delhi in February and March 2018.
Joost Lijbaart is one of the most respected exponents of drumming in the Scandinavian scene – and that is saying a lot, considering that some of the most innovative jazz is being crafted in the region's jazz conservatories. Lijbaart performs at JIC as part of his project Under the Surface, an improvisation trio with vocalist Sanne Rambags and guitarist Bram Stadhouders. Bram is one of the most promising new young musicians in the European improvisation circuit who has received many awards and Sanne is one of the few singers of her generation who is able to improvise with self-written texts and poems, sometimes by positioning herself completely between the musicians. This gives her voice an instrumental function which is beautifully in line with the playing of Lijbaart and Stadhouders.
Also performing is Kitchensink, a refreshingly original and sought-after band in the burgeoning independent music circuit in Delhi. That's not the end, Syncopation, India's premier jazz trio conceptualising various facets of jazz ranging from traditional to contemporary, fusion to funk will also perform at the event.
Aakash Ohri, Senior Executive Director, DLF5 said, "As a genre, Jazz is a mature form of music known to have a distinct coterie which is ever-growing. We are happy to host this debut of an exquisitely curated Jazz India Circuit which will feature internationally acclaimed musicians. This edition is an incredible opportunity for jazz lovers and music aficionados alike to experience spellbinding performances".
Sanjoy Roy, MD, Teamwork Arts says, "We have found a great partner in DLF5 for our season launch, bringing the finest in jazz to Gurugram and NCR audiences. We are constantly working on creating new avenues for bringing jazz to discerning and diverse listeners and a space like Horizon Plaza, with a bustling cosmopolitan audience, is the perfect space for a hypnotic evening of explorations in jazz."
