Students spread awareness on energy conservation

More than seven lakh students from 16000 schools of Himachal Pradesh participated in the painting competition, organised by SJVN to propagate awareness on energy conservation among the youngsters.

The state level competition was held under National Awareness Campaign on Energy Conservation by SJVN at its corporate centre Shakti Sadan, in Shimla, on November 13, 2019. Suresh Bhardwaj, Minister of Education, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Himachal Pradesh presided over the function.

Officials from Government of Himachal Pradesh, KK Pant, Principal Secretary (Education) and Dr Amarjit Kumar Sharma, Director Higher Education also graced the occasion.

In her welcome address, Director (Personnel), SJVN, Geeta Kapur extended warm welcome to the chief guest and congratulated the participants.

Suresh Bhardwaj applauded the efforts of SJVN in organising such a grand event. He appreciated the efforts of students, their parents and teachers in propagation of message of energy conservation.

Karan Kumar from DAV School Lakkar Bazar Shimla and Anmol Verma from DPS Manali bagged the first position in group A & B respectively, while Dhanvi from DPS Manali, and Sakshi from DAV Lkkar Bazar, Shimla bagged the second position in these groups. Arushi from DAV School Totu and Harshita from Dayanand Public School, Shimla bagged the third prize.

The competition was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

Every year, the painting competition is organised under two categories – Category 'A' for 4th to 6th class students and Category 'B' for 7th to 9th class students. It is held in three phases – School, State and National level.

This year, in Category A and B, 414866 and 313010 students participated respectively.

For both categories, first prize of Rs 50,000, second prize for Rs 30,000, third prize of Rs 20,000 and ten consolation prizes of Rs 7,500 each was awarded to the winners. The position holders of both categories of the State Level Painting Competition become eligible to participate in the National Level Painting Competition which will be heldin New Delhi, in

December 2019.
