Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers is presenting 'Celebrating Diamond', a year-long programme to mark the diamond jubilee of the house. The objective is to celebrate all the glitter and dazzle that is in and around our lives and all that is, really, diamond – beginning with 'Solitaires Of Bengal'.

Felicitation of living legends, stars who have added to all the sparkle of the state, and solitaires who are really one of a kind was held as part of the mega celebration, at G D Birla Sabhaghar on November 5, which coincidently is the birth anniversary of the founding father of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers, Gour Chandra Saha.

Recipients of the honour included Soumitra Chatterjee (Cinema), Rudraprasad Sengupta (Theatre), Buddhadeb Guha (Literature), Sabitri Chatterjee (Cinema), Pabitra Sarkar (Education), Arati Mukherji (Playback Singing), Jogen Chowdhury (Art), Thankamani Kutty (Dance), Jaidip Mukerjea (Sports), Kishore Bhimani (Journalism), Gautam Ghosh (Cinema) and Joy Goswami (Poetry).

The programme began with a dance performance by Sukla Kolay and Troupe which was followed by an invocation by Gargi Ghosh during the auspicious lighting of the inaugural lamp.

Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, General Secretary, Ram Krishna Math and Ram Krishna Mission did the honours and blessed the occasion.

The 'Solitaires of Bengal' felicitation ended with vocal renditions of Indian Classical music of the Begum Akhtar gharana by Prabhati Mukherjee.

"I am very happy to present the 'Solitaires of Bengal' honour to people who are known for their devotion and dedication to their work and respected for their lifetime achievement" said Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, "and I bless them for inspiring others to rise and shine," he added.

The recipients had a lot to say in their acceptance speech and it was just as interesting as the personalities and their journey.

"Solitaires of Bengal is a fitting tribute to the living legends of Bengal," said Arpita Saha, Director, "and it gives us great pleasure that it is timed with the birth anniversary of the founding father to this house, Gour Chandra Saha"

"Celebrating Diamond" is a year-long programme to mark our diamond jubilee year with all the glitter and dazzle in and around our lives-like Solitaires of Bengal", new shine in promising young talent, the shimmer of success and celebration... and all that is really diamond," said Rupak Saha," Director.
