Nritya aradhana: An evening of Kuchipudi dance

The third edition of 'Nritya Aradhna', an evening of Kuchipudi dance, was organised by Suramya – a premier institution of performing arts, at Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium, New Delhi.

Young and budding Kuchipudi dancers, who have been trained under well-known Kuchipudi exponent Meenu Thakur, showcased their skills in front of a large and appreciative audience.

The dancers performed popular Kuchipudi pieces like 'Ganesha Vandana', 'Swarajati, Krishna Sabdam', 'Gajendra Moksham' and 'Tillana', in addition to compositions and choreographies. The highlight of the festival was the excellent lighting, coordinated presentation and explanatory compering by Shalini and Mabel, in addition to the display of artistic skills by the young dancers. Garima, Bhawna, Doyel and Susree balanced themselves deftly on earthern pots while performing Tillana, which drew applause from all present.

The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Shikha Rai, former Chairperson, SDMC, Eminent Yoga proponent Dr Gopal, and well known dance exponents Dr Krishan Kumar Sharma and Lalitha Chalapathi.

Shikha Rai appreciated the efforts of Suramya for fostering a sense of national integration among youth through classical dance. Lalitha Chalapathi and Meena Venki of Hayagriva Institute, complimented the budding dancers, who were able to perform traditional Kuchipudi items despite being from a non-Telugu speaking background. Meenu Thakur expressed her gratitude to the guests for encouraging the performers.
