Young musicians to pay tribute to the Golden era of popular music

Music gives immense pleasure, especially when it is created by legends from the Indian popular music scene. 'Gaan Ujaan', a musical tribute to Indian legends, presented by Wizard Events, will be held on January 24 at Rabindra Sadan in the City of Joy.

Singers from this generation will pay a tribute to legends from the Golden era. To recreate the retro mood, Devjit Roy, one of the most popular music composers from Bengal, will be responsible for the musical arrangement. Though modern acoustics will be used, the songs will retain their originality. It is likely that audiences are going to experience a "trip down the memory lane" kind of musical evening.

Young singers like Emon Chakraborty, Prabir Das, Sovan Ganguly, Madhurima Dutta Chowdhury, Aritra Dasgupta, Dipanwita Chowdhury, Sispiya Banerjee will be performing some classics by Hemanta Mukherjee, Salil Chowdhury, Manna Dey, Amar Pal, Shyamal Mitra, Arati Mukherjee, Runa Laila, R.D.Burman and Kishore Kumar. Interestingly, the gifted poet, Srijato, will be presenting the show as a story-teller. He will reveal many unknown anecdotes relating to the songs as well as composers' stories about the making of classics. This will be a different kind of creative attempt by Srijato on stage.

Creative director and composer Devjit Roy said, "This is a tribute to an entire generation of legendary music composers and singers. Their songs will be rendered by promising young singers of today.This is an initiative which will ensure fresh talent who will carry on our reach musical legacy". The repertoire of 25 to 26 songs will include old hits like Manna Dey's 'Yashomati Maiya se' to Arati Mukherjee's 'Ei Mon Jochonay' to Runa Laila's 'Oh mera chail chabila', Roy told Millennium Post.

Prabir Das, singer and Director of Wizard Events Inc said, "It is an initiative to celebrate those ageless creations in an evening. Next generation singers and listeners should know about our glorious past of music, the treasure we have. It is a platform where new talent showcasing their mettle."
