Khadi Bhawan celebrates Christmas with visitors

New Delhi: It was some sort of concert between the Gandhian philosophy of self-reliance with Jesus Christ's lessons of tolerance and purity in the erstwhile 'Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan' when amid much jingles, fervour, and gaiety, Christmas
was celebrated. Incidentally, it was the first occasion, when 'Khadi Bhawan' – the Khadi India outlet at Connaught Place (CP) in New Delhi – decided to celebrate Christmas with the visitors.
Clad in red Christmas caps, the employees of Khadi India outlet decorated the 'Christmas tree' planted in the outlet, with stars and jingles and distributed toffees and chocolates with visitors. Several hand-woven and hand-spun items – especially aimed for Christmas celebrations – were also displayed on this occasion. Interestingly, over the years, CP is believed to be the heart of New Delhi and 'Khadi Bhawan' is considered as the heart of CP.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena, who mooted the idea of the Christmas celebrations with employees and customers, said that marking the birth of Jesus spreads the universal message of love, sacrifice, and compassion.
"Since Khadi is the household name of honesty and sincerity in modern times, it will certainly renew our society's sense of fraternity," he said.
Lots of customers appreciated the gesture by KVIC.
On the other hand, the Charkha Museum, which has recently emerged as a famous landmark of Connaught Place recorded a huge turnout of visitors. On Christmas Day, the biggest steel charkha in the 'Charkha Museum' was the sight of attraction.
