Kanyadaan: Depicting caste conflict in India

Highlighting the problem and consequences of marriage, Vijay Tendulkar's 'Kanyadaan' – 1 hour 50 minutes play, will be performed on October 2, 7 pm onwards at Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts.

Presented by Black Pearl Arts, 'Kanyadaan' is a Hindi play, which has been directed by Amul Sagar. It's Vijay Tendulkar prolific writing that makes it worth the watch. Tendulkar has written several plays and is known for portraying socio-political problems in his dramas.

'Kanyadan', which is one of his best works, brought into focus age-old dominating Dalit aspects with sociological and political dimension, ailing our culture and society. He depicts the conflict between the upper-class and Dalit and criticises the politicians on the base that rather than removing the evil of class-distinction, they capitalize on it. He certainly arouses some questions in our mind but he does not bother to answer them. As a creative genius, he does not take a side.

Black Pearl Arts have been a Delhi based theatre group working for 5 years to make the society a better place to live in through the medium of theatre plays as well as street plays.
