'Go Green' this Durga Puja

Durga Puja is just round the corner and Delhi NCR is gearing up for the celebrations with Puja organisers adopting the concept of 'Go Green' towards pollution free environment.

Cooperative Ground Durga Puja Samity, Chittaranjan Park, New Delhi will celebrate its 44th year of Durga Puja festival from October 3 – 8, 2019, around the theme 'Commemorating the Birth Centenary of two legends of Indian Music, Hemanta Mukherjee and Manna Dey, showcasing their work and their immense contribution towards Indian Cinema, Art and Culture.

The entire Puja Pandal, including the Mandap, Cultural Stage and Main Gate are being designed to re- create the golden era of music. There will be life size images of both the artists in their various moods. Craftsmen are working relentlessly to bring alive the feel and the memories of that bygone era.

This year's Durga Puja festival will witness pulsating music, courtesy the cultural and entertainment programmes in the evening each day.

Keeping 'Puja Theme' in mind this year's cultural program is set with a performance of the celebrity singer Ankita from Sa Re Ga Ma of ZEE Bangla 2019 fame, who will be this year's Star Attraction on Panchami – October 3, followed by another fantastic performer, Amit Paul – of Indian idol fame on Shasthi – October 4 and a performance by the Rock Band Krackers on Saptami – October 5. Apart from these popular artists, the Puja Samity will provide a platform to various local groups to showcase their talent and keep the tempo alive at Cooperative Puja.

The Puja Samity has always supported the cause of 'Save the Environment' by making its Idol eco-friendly and has been awarded for this in past also. Speaking to media, Secretary, Kallol Acharyya of the Samity said, "To save Yamuna, for very first time, this year we take a forward step ahead by making our own artificial pond for immersion in our ground and with this initiative, we pledge to curb pollution as much as possible. Though the NGT notification is yet to be implemented in full force for all Puja committees, we are proactively ensuring we are participating in the efforts to save river Yamuna contribute towards a green earth."

"Over the years, one of our focus has been the quality Bhog (Langar) and around 20,000 people visit our pandal each day for delicious Bhog. Our serving plates are also eco-friendly made from areca leaf". he added.

A range of delicious cuisines starting from authentic Bengali food to North Indian / Mughlai, Chinese and Seafood in the food court at ground will be the added attraction.

Speaking about security arrangement he said "We get over 5-6 lacs footfalls every year and we undertake massive security arrangements to ensure no untoward incident takes place, we get constant relentless support of the Delhi police who provide us a huge support in supervising the security arrangements.
