Filmmaking legends attend SRFTI convocation

Marking the 97th birth anniversary of Satyajit Ray, the 8th convocation of SRFTI was held on May 2. On the occasion, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, National award-winning director was present as the chief guest whereas Kumar Shahani, renowned filmmaker marked his presence as the guest of honour.
Both the legends were felicitated by the Director of SRFTI, Dr Debamitra Mitra. They conferred the diplomas to the graduates of the 11th batch of SRFTI. During the convocation, Mirza said, "Throughout the world, including India, there is an incredible amount of hyper-nationalism and hyper-patriotism. People are being judged about what they wear, what they drink, and what they eat; how much they love their country and hate it."
The valedictory speech was delivered by Shahani who remarked, "As an outcome of all that has been happening around the world, a new way of life will emerge very soon, not only in our country but across the globe. We will be able to fight together against the forces that divide people on the basis of class and religion."
Named after the legendary film maestro Satyajit Ray, SRFTI was established in 1995 and is emerging as a national centre of excellence which offers post-graduate programmes in the disciplines of cinema, electronic and digital media.
