Panchamda music to regale audiences

The musical genius is back on big screen, for the first time with a bouquet of movies to enthrall you and renew the emotional bond. Beginning June 26, the master Bollywood composer – R D Burman, will come alive through Hindi and Bengali films showcasing his music at Nandan III in the City of Joy – Kolkata. This is to commemorate R D Burman's 79th birth anniversary which falls on June 27. The festival is being organised by the Amit Kumar Fan Club (AKFC). Most of Panchamda's songs became hits when sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar and his son, Amit Kumar.

The R D Burman Film Festival to be held between June 26 and 27, will screen some of the finest movies in which R D Burman has scored the music. The festival will be inaugurated by eminent film director Sandip Ray, in the presence of many celebrities from the Bengali film industry. The inaugural film to be screened is the critically acclaimed Manzil which was directed by Basu Chatterjee. The other films to be screened includes Shwet Patharer Thala (Bengali, Director – Prabhat Roy) Bemisal, Buddha Mil Gaya (Director – Hrishikesh Mukherjee), Charitraheen (Director- Shakti Samanta). The famous song, 'Rim Jhim gire Sawan' (Kishore-Lata duet) is from the film, Manzil.

The inaugural day of the festival will also witness the launch of a my stamp on R D Burman Film Festival 2017 initiated by Amit Kumar Fan Club, released by the India Post, to make the occasion memorable.

AKFC was founded in October, 2005 by a group of young music enthusiasts of Kolkata who had a common passion for music and their love for the multifaceted singer Amit Kumar. Over the years, Amit Kumar Fan Club has organized various memorial musical shows featuring the likes of Sabita Choudhury, Antara Choudhury, Indrani Sen, Late Manohari Singh, Bhanu Gupta, Rocket Mondal, Soumitra Chatterjee and other musicians from RD Burman's group. The Group has also instituted an award – Amit Kumar Fan Club Samman – recognizing various talents from the cultural world.

Interestingly, Rini, a popular vocalist from city gifted with a mellifluous voice is coming up with her album 'Galpo Shuru Panchamer,' a tribute to legendary music composer R D Burman featuring six fresh non-film Bengali songs composed by ace music composers like Suparnakanti Ghosh, Rocket Mondal, Raghav Chattopadhyay, Soumya Ghosal, lyrics penned by Utpal Das. Songs like 'Mone Pore Ajo', 'Laal Guitarer Galpo', 'Dhulo Makha Tomar Chhobi', 'Kichhu Roye Jay' are worth a mention. It is an homage to the musical genius.

The album stars the noted actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty who has lent his voice as a story teller for the first time.

R D Burman will be remembered on his 79th birthday on June 27 by releasing this audio CD in front of the legend's statue situated at Southern Avenue at 12 noon in presence of all the artistes who have worked in this album.
