Delhiites gather to participate in Mango Festival

Showcasing over hundreds of commercially popular varieties, the 30th Mango Festival held at Delhi Haat, Janakpuri, witnessed huge foot fall. Organized by Delhi Tourism in association with Government of Delhi, the festival was inaugurated on July 7 by Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Delhi.

The main highlight of the evening was the mango eating competition for women, in which the participants were given three kilograms of mangoes to consume within three minutes. It drew large participation from women folks present at the festival and infused the crowd with thrill and excitement.

In the competition, Kavita Choudhary won the first prize after eating 1 kg and 60 gms mango pulp. The second prize was won by Sunita who ate 980 gms. of mango pulp, and the third prize was won by Krishna Aggarwal eating 880 gms. of mango pulp. Cash prizes worth Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000, and Rs. 1000 were given to the winners respectively.

Besides the competition, magic show, mango quiz, mango slogan writing and cultural performances by Urdu Academy entertained the audience. Also, bands like Tafri, The Mixtape, Divyanshu Sharma Collective and Rock n Raaga gathered huge crowds on the second day.

Apart from the unique and traditional varieties of mangoes on display, there was a sale of fresh mangoes and mango-based products like pickles, chutney, juice, jelly, aam-papad, and jam. Mango growers and horticulturists exhibited the best of their farm offerings. From traditional delicacies like the Husnara or the Kesar to the exotic imports, the festival showcased myriad varieties of mangoes.
