Capturing the soul of Rajasthan

The love of photography and travelling has taken Priyanka Banerjee all over the world and the country. Amidst her myriad likes for various cultures covering the longitude and latitude of the country, of particular interest is her absolute love for the state of Rajasthan.

She has travelled extensively across the length and breadth of the state, covering the pink city of Jaipur, to the bylanes the lime-stoned walled city of Jaiselmer, the palace city of Jodhpur where she has captivated the glory of Mehrangarh fort of the by gone era, or the ruins the city of lakes, Udaipur which tell many stories, Chittorgarh reminds us of the beauty of queen Padmini and tales of her jauhar. Her love for nature took her further into the interiors of the state, exploring the natural reserves of Ranthambore, Sariska as also to the Pushkar cattle fair.

"Mirage is a condition where a layer of water appears in the distant but when one actually goes near it, there is no water to be found. This specifically happens in the desert areas pointing at the hot arid conditions of the place. Despite the heat, the people of the place are full of vivacity, hospitality and mirth. This has touched me to the core. Living in the metro cities we have all the amenities but still we are dissatisfied and yearn for more. Even we are running after an illusion to ameliorate our lives but in d process we do not live our lives, we do not live in d present. It seems the people of big cities are constantly running after a mirage," said the artist who has participated in various group and solo exhibitions in esteem galleries in India and abroad.

Bringing soul-food for all art-lovers and connoisseurs in the form of an exhibition titled 'Mirage,' at Convention Foyer, India Habitat Centre; Priyanka has brought the soul of Rajasthan through her paintings to the capital. The exhibition will open on April 20 till April 23 from 10 am to 7 pm.
