Calcutta club goes green

Calcutta Club's mission inspired by the vast range of skills and expertise of their diverse membership has been implementing various kinds of projects which are related to the environment. This prestigious club sets a benchmark in responsible corporate practice.

Therefore, this club along with the sound guidance of some senior members positioned in environmental engineering space has guided certain projects at the club for a greener environment.

Calcutta Club has always strived to be at the forefront of change as one of the premiere clubs in the city. This mission, inspired by the vast range of skills and expertise of the diverse membership, has been accelerated this year through the commissioning and implementation of landmark projects related to the environment in one shot. This 'Big Bang' approach is a first for clubs in the city and more so for an urban club located in the heart of the metropolis, and on one of the city's most stressed location in terms of pollution load.

Projects like, Solar Power Generation Project, Composting plant for Solid Waste, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Rain Water Harvesting (RWH), Ban on use of Plastic Bags, Fire Escape Staircase are a few projects running under the mission.

"I am happy to present the ongoing projects, and in the next two month, we will be setting a new benchmark in sound environmental practices. Me and my Committee are focussed on our responsibility to do our bit and more for the environment," said Dr Indrajit Roy, President of the Club, on behalf of the Committee.

"We would do more than what is required of us," he added.
