A musical tribute to Pandit Buddhadev

As part of the 'Purnima Music Concert series', IGNCA organized a unique program titled 'Strings of Shahjahanpur'.

Held on the occasion of Guru Purnima, the event saw performances by the disciples of Padmabhushan Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta of Senia Shahjahanpur gharana, who paid tribute to their master.

The programme was divided into three parts. The program started with 'Gat Mala', in which the disciples of Buddhadev Das Gupta from the Senina Shahjahanpur Gharana; Vidushi Debasamita Bhattacharya and Pratyush Bannerjee in Sarod, Samrajit Kumarasen in Sitar and Sushmoy Mishra on the Tabla, presented a number of selected and rare ragas related to Seniya Gharana.

They presented Bandish of Ustad Murad Ali Khan, Ustad Mohammad Abdullah Khan, Pandit Radhika Mohan, Ustad Mohammed Amir Khan. The event, in fact, showcased two generations of followers of Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta.

In the second part of the program, Pratyush Banerjee displayed a PPT based on the history of the Seniya Gharana, after which a short film based on the life and works of Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta was displayed.

The third and important part of the program was Sangeetanjali, in which Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya on Sarod and Pandit Sugato Nag made Jugalbandi. In his presentation of more than an hour, Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya and Pandit Sugato Nag performed two Raga's 'Ramdasi Mallhar' and 'Tilak Kamod'.

On behalf of IGNCA Dr Achal Pandya, HoD of Kaladarsana gave the statue of Saraswati and Angavastra to the artists.
