A magical evening with Birju Maharaj

The Guru-Shishya Parampara thrived and flourished for thousands of years in India. In this culture, when there was a need to convey subtle and powerful knowledge, it was always done in an atmosphere of utter trust, dedication and intimacy between the Gurus (master) and Shishya (Disciple).

Taking inspiration from this tradition, The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts started a new series of the Guru- Shishya Parampara in December 2018, called 'Diksha'.

The fourth series of 'Diksha', is based on Indian classical dance form 'Kathak' by none other than the legend Pt Birju Maharaj and his shishyas, presenting the various forms of this great Indian classical dance. The 3 day series will commence on December 6, 2019 6 pm onwards and will conclude on December 9, 2019.

Apart from the great Guru, some of his famous disciples who would be performing include, Pt Krishna Mohan Mishra, Deepak Maharaj, Vaswati Mishra, Malti Shyam, Neelima Azeem and others.

The grand finale will be presented by the great Guru himself.
