FB leader from Cooch Behar joins Trinamool Congress

A few days ahead of the Assembly elections, a senior Forward Bloc leader from Cooch Behar joined the Trinamul Congress.

This comes at the time when the Left Front is trying to form an “unethical” alliance with the Congress to oust the Trinamool Congress in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Hiralal Das was a district secretariat member of the Forward Bloc. Rabindranath Ghosh, the district present of the Trinamool Congress, handed him the party flag in a programme. It is learnt that the talks between Das and district leadership of Trinamool Congress was on for the past few weeks. Finally he decided to join the party on Sunday.

After joining the party, Das said: “Development that took place in the state under the leadership of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee had motivated him to join the party. I want to work for people and I felt that there will be ample scope to work for the people if I join Trinamool Congress.”

Das’s decision to join the Trinamool Congress didn’t go well with the leadership of the Forward Bloc in the district. They considered it to be a major blow to the party. The leaders are not ready to accept, but they know that it may leave an impact on the party’s performance in the forthcoming elections, sources said.

It may be recalled that MLA from Dinhata Udayan Guha had joined the Trinamool Congress in October 2015. The party supremo Mamata Banerjee had announced that Guha had joined the party.

Guha is contesting as a Trinamool Congress candidate from Dinhata Assembly constituency this time.
According to some local leaders, the decision to file Guha as candidate from Dinhata Assembly constituency will help the Trinamool Congress in making better result. The leaders feel that more leaders from other parties may join the Trinamool Congress ahead of the elections itself.
