Father murders 2-month-old baby after quarrel with wife

A horrific incident occurred in Malda as a father murdered his two-month-old boy followed by a quarrel with his third wife and the mother of the baby who had protested against his illicit relationship with another woman in the locality.

The incident which occurred at Laxmipur village area of Manickchawk in Malda triggered tension among the local people. Reacting outrageously to the incident, the local residents demanded stern action against the accused.

Police have already arrested the father, the late child’s  stepmother and the woman with whom the father had developed an illicit relationship. Police said that the accused Seikh Barik (37), a cattle dealer from Manickchawk had three wives one of whom is the mother of the baby.

His first wife had earlier left him since the accused had been living with his other two wives. The mother of the baby whom the accused had married few years ago protested against Barik as he developed an illicit affair with a woman from the same village.

Police came to know during the interrogation that the accused and his third wife were often involved in a quarrel over the relationship. Following a prolonged quarrel with his wife, the accused hatched a conspiracy with his second wife and the lady love to kill the two-month-old baby.

The baby’s mother said that the child went missing from Tuesday morning and the local people later spotted the body at a nearby high drain.

On receiving the news from the local people, the baby’s mother reached the spot and found injury marks on the neck of the baby which might suggest that the victim was strangulated to death. On the basis of the compliant the police have started an investigation and arrested the three accused.
