Father kills 6-yr-old, attempts suicide

A six-year-old girl died and her elder sister sustained severe injuries on being attacked by their father, who allegedly hit them with a rod after a heated argument with his wife, at West Delhi’s Khyala area on Friday.

The man, identified as Kanwal <g data-gr-id="31">Dawar</g> (42), also sustained severe injuries when he allegedly jumped off the <g data-gr-id="39">third floor</g> balcony and landed on a car parked off the road. He also got enmeshed in a bunch of electric wires, which reduced the impact of the fall, said a police official.

According to the police, the incident was reported around 6 pm on Friday after Kanwal entered into a heated argument with his wife, which was ensued by further violence. After the argument, Kanwal picked up an iron road and allegedly beat his six-year-old daughter to death – <g data-gr-id="38">suspectedly</g> with a single blow, as the victim was not heard screaming.

Kanwal then went to the other room and allegedly attacked his 12-year-old daughter. 

She collapsed on the ground after the first blow and started screaming, hearing which Kanwal’s wife, <g data-gr-id="33">Ripal</g> (32), rushed to her rescue.

Kanwal then dropped the rod and jumped off the balcony. However, he did not land directly on the ground and got enmeshed into a bunch of wires. After struggling for a few minutes, he managed to free himself and landed over a car parked on the road.

Locals made a Police Control Room call and both the children and Kanwal were rushed to a hospital, where the six-year-old girl was declared brought dead. Her elder sister and father, Kanwal, were admitted and are presently reported to be in a critical condition, said the official.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at the Khyala police station and <g data-gr-id="29">investigation</g> is underway, said a senior police official.

Kanwal is a property dealer in West Delhi. <g data-gr-id="32">Preliminary</g> investigation suggested that he was depressed over financial issues and had regular fights with his spouse, the official added.
