Farmer’s union protest outside Rahul, Priyanka’s guest house against power crisis in the area

As Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka flipped through papers to finalise office-bearers for 19 blocks in Amethi, the activists of BKU (Bharatiya Kisan Union) staged protest against erratic power supply before a guesthouse the duo were staying.

The BKU activists led by Rita Singh staged a sit-in outside the Munshiganj guest house saying except Amethi tehsil, the other area was getting only six-eight hours of electricity. They claimed around 100 villages that get power supply through Annai Baijal feeder have not received power for the last four months.

Later, the actvists handed over a memorandum, addressed to Rahul Gandhi, through Chandrakant Dubey – representative of Gandhi. Earlier in the day Rahul and Priyanka completed the interview process for selecting office bearers in 19 blocks.

After completing interviews, Priyanka returned to New Delhi by a special charter flight from Fursatganj airport this evening. Rahul had stayed back and will return to New Delhi on Thursday.

Rahul Gandhi and his sister, held meetings with district Congress leaders for two days to select candidates for the Block and district level party organisations.

‘Both siblings took the interviews of probable leaders for the last two days who would be appointed as the president of the blocks and members of the district Congress committees,’ sources here said.
