Farmers thank Sonia Gandhi for FDI

Thousands of farmers from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and uttar Pradesh on Tuesday called on the Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi to express their gratitude for the FDI policy in retail sector. The farmers also submitted a memorandum to Gandhi in this regard. Earlier, addressing the farmers at the AICC office, Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that the UPA government has taken the decision to implement the FDI Policy in retail sector after long consultations and this decision is not going to be reversed. He emphatically said that this policy will be beneficial for the farmers, as they will get remunerative prices for their produce and consumers will also get commodities at reasonable prices.

Referring to the reported statement by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, Sharma said that no state has veto right on other states. This policy is open for every state. Those who agree can implement it in their states, he added.
