Fake sim card racket busted, nine arrested

Police have busted a fake SIM card racket from Balurghat on late Sunday night. Acting on a tip-off a police team arrested nine people including the kingpins Tapas Kundu and Subhodip Dasgupta. Police have recovered around one thousand fake SIM cards. 

During the interrogation, police came to know that Kundu is a homeopathy medicine seller. He runs a homeopathy medicine shop at Lenin Sarani area of South Dinajpur.  Police came to know during the interrogation that Kundu used to run the racket from his shop. Police had raided the house of Kundu on Sunday night and arrested him. After interrogating him police have arrested eight others from different areas. 

Preliminary investigation has revealed that fake SIM card racket has been rampant in the bordering areas. Checking the use of fake SIM cards is a major challenge for the police as they know many of the SIM cards have been used for anti-social activities.
