Fake currency with all RBI characters doing rounds, three arrested

A fake currency racket operating in NCR has developed currency notes akin to real currency notes, having all the 10 characters prescribed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The members of the gang, arrested by Ghaziabad police, have revealed that they pay Rs 50,000 real notes to purchase Rs 1,00,000 fake notes and sell it to the next person for Rs 60,000. The notes look so real that only an expert can recognise them.

‘We have alerted Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), as such high quality notes cannot be published without involvement of a state actor. We suspect involvement of Pakistan -based agencies. These currency notes are in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, and very difficult to differentiate from the real notes,’ said Shiv Shankar Yadav, S P City of Ghaziabad.

Among the three arrested, two are women and one of them hails from Bangladesh. The kingpin of the gang is from Bangladesh, who gave the police a slip at Dilshad Garden Metro station.

‘The main supplier has been identified as Sibban, 35, who is a citizen of Bangladesh. We suspect involvement of more persons and are jointly investigating into the matter, with the help of IB and ATS,’ added Yadav.

These high-quality fake currency notes can only be differentiated by ultra-violet ray examination.

The cops have seized Rs 1.5 lakh from the gang. The arrested members of the gang have been identified as Anil Sharma, 36, of district Jaunpur, his  partner Kiran, 30 from Sonia Vihar in Delhi, and Jamila, 45, from Bangladesh, but currently a resident of district Malda in West Bengal. Both Anil Sharma and Kiran are divorcees and are involved with the gang for the last five to six years.

According to police, Sibban brings the currency notes from Bangladesh and distributes the consignments among members to distribute it further in the market. ‘They mix these notes with real notes to run in the market,’ added Yadav. According to police, a member of the gang, Zeo, is lodged in Central jail of Kolkata.
