Acting on a tip-off, the city police raided a house located at Bakhrahat under Thakurpukur police station and recovered a machine used for producing fake currencies. Many fake notes of 500 and 100 denominations were seized. Police arrested Raja Mondal and Kamalesh Deb from the place.

After interrogating the accused, police have also seized another machine from Kamalesh’s house at Entally. Police have recovered various instruments and chemicals from the two houses.

Investigating officers said that this was the second time a fake currency producing unit was found in the city. In March 2015, police had busted another fake currency unit in Manicktala area.

Often fake currency notes circulating in the city are smuggled through bordering areas. In the earlier incident in 2015, police had recovered fake notes worth around Rs 10 crore. Police are interrogating both the accused.
