‘Extra-marital affair, debt burden might be reasons behind the crime’

The city police suspect that Neel Fonseka, who had Rs 25 lakh debt burden and was also involved in an extra-marital affair, might have killed his wife Jessica Fonseka (42) and twin sons Darren and Josuah at his Palm Avenue residence.

Police have recovered the bodies of Jessica Fonseka her twin sons Darren and Josuah from their rented house at 73/1C Palm Avenue on January 13.

The three bodies were lying in a pool of blood, while Neel had been rescued with serious injuries on his throat and was admitted to the hospital. Neel has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Police recovered three knives and a dumbbell which were used in the crime.

A senior police officer said the police also did not rule out the possibility of the victims being drugged.

The viscera of the diseased have been sent to the forensic laboratory and the report is expected within a month. Police said Neel had borrowed around Rs 25 lakh from the market and he failed to repay the amount. He was under tremendous mental pressure.

Neel also fought with his wife over his extra-marital affair with a woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

Neel is now recovering at a private nursing home. An officer said he could not be interrogated for long as doctors were not giving permission. The doctors said after such physical and mental trauma, there might be incoherence in the statement.

The officer said they were verifying Neel’s statement which they had recorded earlier.
