Extortion racket busted in SW Delhi

Delhi Police busted an extortion gang in South-West Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Tuesday. The three accused have been identified as Vinit Kumar, Manjeet Singh Mohar and Parvesh Kumar.

The trio made extortion calls to the complainant, Sanjeev Gupta, demanding a sum of Rs 5 lakh. The complainant had already given them a sum of Rs 3 lakh. Gupta owns a paint and hardware shop at Najafgarh.

Since Gupta had been receiving threats from the gang, he registered a complaint with the police.

The police kept a close tab on the complainant’s shop and monitored on who visited the shop. To trap the accused, police gave the complainant a pack of white paper which looked similar to the currency notes. On spotting a young boy with the same packet of white paper, the officials apprehended Vinit Kumar.

R A Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West, said: “Parvesh fled from the spot on a motorcycle. Meanwhile, co-accused Manjeet was apprehended from Dwarka sector 3 and later Parvesh too was arrested from Sangam Vihar.”

Police have recovered a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
